Regional Developments: A Legal and Banking Perspective on Recent Changes in UAE and KSA
Which regional banking / legal trends and developments are affecting your business? What are your expectations for 2022?
These and other questions were discussed during our event, which was co-hosted by HSBC, German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce (AHK) and SCHLÜTER GRAF. For us it was the first live event of this kind after a very long time and we thank all our esteemed guest for joining us at the beautiful venue of the Baden-Württemberg House, EXPO 2020 Dubai.
Legal and banking developments were highlighted by Yulia Kasiyanova, MBA (SCHLÜTER GRAF) and Dirk Bornholdt, MBA (HSBC), respectively. These presentations were followed by a lively panel discussion. A big thank you goes out to the panelists H.E. the German Consul General to the UAE Holger Mahnicke, Richard van der Meer (Head of Corporate and Commercial Banking, HSBC UAE), René Seyger (Managing Partner, Roland Berger Middle East) and Partner Andrés Ring for their valuable assessments. We also thank Oliver Oehms (CEO AHK) for moderating the discussion.
Our key takeaways from the event:
- Good competition between the regional powerhouses KSA and UAE will continue to bring about important changes in the legal and banking fields, which will in turn benefit businesses.
- Key legal developments, such as employment, data protection and eCommerce regulations have been long awaited. Companies must now act to implement and follow these and other new regulations.
- The overall expectations for 2022 are bullish.
