OMAN'S NEW LABOR LAW

31. July 2023

The Sultanate of Oman has the enacted a New Labor Law by virtue of Sultani Decree 53/2023, replacing the labor law enacted by virtue of Sultani Decree 35/ 2003. The New Labor Law is already in effect (from the day after its publication in the Official Gazette).

The New Labor Law is deemed the minimum standard for labor relations, not to be deviated from to the detriment of an employee. It includes the following topics: employment of Omanis and foreigners, labor contracts, their formalities, conclusion, and termination, obligations of employers and employees, work times, wages, safety dispute resolution, administrative proceedings, penal provisions etc. The New Labor Law applies to any existing work relations.
